About

My name is Andrew Ord and I am a new Beekeeper. I began beekeeping in April 2008 when I started by first hive with a package of bees I bought from Jones Bee Company.  I find bees to be fascinating and something that we (modern society) has forgotten about.  Bees are more than just a stinging insect.  They account for the pollination and production of 80% of our food supply, and oh yeah, honey!  The behavior of bees in a colony is also very interesting.  How they interact and work together to survive is amazing.

I want to share my experiences with you in hopes that you will grow to appreciate the honeybee and become proactive in supporting them.

Thanks,

Andrew

Thanks for your fun blog. I, too am interested in becoming a beginning beekeeper. I was surprised to find that you purchased your bee’s in Utah. I live in Southern Utah (St. George). I hope to be able to start a hive next Spring, as its probably too late to start this year. Thanks for the glimpse into your experience. By the way, your yard is gorgeous!

This is the perfect time to start a beehive. I think that Jones Bees gets their package bees in a couple of weeks. You can also go after a swarm in a month or two. Goodluck!!!
